About the Role
This Fall internship (Aug-Dec) at Project Harmony offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child by participating in the review and coordination of child abuse and neglect cases with Multi-Disciplinary Teams. It is designed for students whose participation is tied to a class and/or program requirement for their degree, fostering an understanding of child advocacy and the welfare system.
What You’ll Do
• Review and analyze child abuse and neglect reports received by law enforcement and child protective services pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. 28-710.
• Assist the county attorney and current MDT Facilitator in facilitating regular case reviews and arranging for training opportunities for the multidisciplinary team.
• Work with the Coordination Team to continuously identify and evaluate goals and outcomes.
• Submit reports as requested regarding frequency, outcomes and recommendations of the multi-disciplinary team case review as well as for improvement in protocols and practices.
• Timely input of case information related to goals and outcomes into agency database.
• Work closely and collaboratively with system partners.
• Assist in identifying training needs for child welfare staff, attorneys and judges about child development, trauma, parent-child relationships, availability of community services and resources for children and families and other best practice trainings as needed.
• Ensure culturally competent services are provided without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• Participate in community committees and advisory boards.
• Actively participate in Project Harmony program and agency operations such as staff meetings, in-services, assigned committees and other relevant activities.
• Collaborate with Project Harmony staff, as well as other agencies and service providers involved in serving the child and family.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

• Must respect and maintain confidentiality, and uphold HIPAA compliance.
• Ensure culturally competent services are provided to all families we serve without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.
• Ability to relate well to a wide variety of individuals, including referral sources, providers, family members, children, etc.
• Excellent organization, time management and decision-making skills.
• High level of initiative and energy.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts.
• Are enrolled in a university program which has written requirements for the placement experience.
• Have career goals congruent with goals of this internship – child welfare, child mental health, advocacy.
• Can pass background checks and provide references as requested.
• Are free of any foreseeable conflicts of interest given the population served and your past or current volunteer activities and/or employment.
