Unloader | Watco
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Watco. Watco is at the heart of keeping the world’s supply chain moving, operating short line railroads, switching sites, terminals, ports, and logistics hubs. As an Unloader, you will play a critical hands-on operational role, contributing to the vital industry of product transfer between railcars and facilities. Your work ensures the safe and efficient movement of goods, supporting both team and customer goals.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Rotating shifts
• Pay: $23 hourly
• Mission: Ensure the safe and efficient inspection, preparation, and transfer of products between railcars and facilities while adhering to strict operational and safety standards.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Operational Oversight: Communicate daily work plans and critical safety instructions to crew members, ensuring all tasks are executed safely and efficiently according to company standards.
• Equipment Management: Operate and maintain essential equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, and engines, along with related machinery, in strict compliance with all company and regulatory guidelines.
• Railcar Processing: Conduct thorough inspections, sealing, and preparation of railcars and associated equipment for product transfer, which includes performing necessary structural inspections and connecting/disconnecting 4-inch offloading hoses.
• Documentation & Compliance: Monitor ongoing operations and accurately document all inspections and maintenance activities, while strictly ensuring adherence to Watco’s safety, environmental, and “Customer First” principles.
• Site Maintenance: Perform general upkeep of all work areas, including tasks such as snow and weed removal, and utilize various hand tools safely and effectively to complete job duties in diverse weather conditions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a strong foundational understanding of safety procedures and demonstrate the ability to meticulously follow all regulatory and company standards, ensuring compliance in every aspect of the role.
• Experience: Proven ability to pass comprehensive training and successfully obtain all required reporting, testing, and certifications specific to this position and its operational location.
• Skills:
* Physical Resilience: Exhibit significant physical fitness and agility, enabling work in all weather conditions, the ability to climb on and under railcars, and safely handle a variety of tools and equipment.
* Schedule Flexibility: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including 12-hour day and night shifts on a rotating basis, with availability for overtime, weekends, and holidays as dictated by business operational needs.
* Collaborative Communication: Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills essential for coordinating tasks, conveying instructions clearly to crew members, and supporting both team and customer goals.
• Bonus:
* Technical Acumen: Knowledge of specialized equipment such as densitometers, mechanical equipment, hydraulic systems, and proficiency with basic hand tools including wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and measuring instruments.
* Mobility: Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
