Junior Data Engineering Intern | ECS

The Tone:
This is an internship at ECS, located in Fairfax, VA for the summer of 2026. ECS is a leading provider of technology services to the United States Federal Government, focused on supporting Federal Agencies and Departments. In this role, you will move beyond the classroom to gain firsthand experience with production-grade workflows and real-world datasets, contributing to impactful Artificial Intelligence initiatives. You will work within a growing program that utilizes forward-leaning technologies and supports extraordinary customers in the AI/ML domain.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Extract, transform, and standardize data to prepare for ingest into Machine Learning (ML) development environments.
• Assist with the design and development of data services.
• Document data processes and workflows.
• Complete data analyses, catering results to leadership in a holistic and easy-to-understand way.
• Help ensure data quality and accuracy to support reliable analytics and insights.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Management, or an equivalent field. This is an early career internship position.
• Experience: Experience transforming and manipulating data sets.
• Skills: Python, SQL, excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities.
• Bonus: Familiarity with ETL processes and data management concepts; Experience working with cloud technologies (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure); Experience with Databricks or Gitlab; Experience with data visualization tools.
