About the Role

ASSYST is seeking a skilled Data Architect to support a key client project in Arlington, VA. This remote position will integrate into the client’s Department of Technology Services (DTS) Application Development and Data Management team. The team is dedicated to building robust ETL scripts for data warehousing and performing critical data management tasks to facilitate both internal and external data sharing.

As a Data Architect, you will serve as a vital interface between the DTS and various other departments. This requires exceptional communication skills to effectively discuss complex business issues with diverse audiences, ranging from technical specialists to non-technical stakeholders across all organizational levels. You will collaborate closely with the technical manager and key stakeholders to define and implement strategic data initiatives, championing data management best practices throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop secure database solutions for information storage and retrieval, leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) data warehouse and data lake architecture.
  • Rewrite existing SSIS packages to a modern framework utilizing Docker, Node, Python, and dbt.
  • Analyze current data packages to plan and develop a comprehensive roadmap for code conversion and modernization.
  • Perform meticulous data testing and ensure high standards of data quality.
  • Analyze the Redshift Datawarehouse and recommend targeted performance improvements.
  • Extend and apply robust security measures for data warehouse usage.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven work experience in roles such as Data Architect, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or similar.
  • In-depth understanding of database structure principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering and analyzing system requirements.
  • Knowledge of data mining and segmentation techniques.
  • Prior experience working effectively within a software development team/environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server and SSIS.
  • Extensive experience with cloud technologies, specifically the AWS suite of services, including Redshift.
  • Experience writing code in Node and Python.
  • Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool).
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A self-starter with a proactive approach to challenges.
