Junior Accountant – Resident Funds

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and people-focused Junior Accountant – Resident Funds to oversee and manage resident bank accounts in a highly customer-facing, regulated environment. This unique role seamlessly blends accounting precision with daily, direct interaction with residents, requiring a steady smile, unwavering patience, and grace in all interactions.
You will report directly to the Accounting Manager and operate under the strict oversight of the State of Maryland, ensuring all financial transactions comply fully with complex regulatory requirements. The work is inherently hands-on, encompassing tasks from accurately writing checks and meticulously preparing essential paperwork to engaging with residents face-to-face during daily designated “office hours.”
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a fiduciary for resident funds, diligently ensuring absolute compliance with all pertinent regulations.
- Accurately write checks, process withdrawals, and execute deposits for individual resident accounts.
- Meet with residents and their families daily to facilitate account setup, provide comprehensive financial information, and process various transactions with empathy and clarity.
- Maintain meticulous records, expertly organize complex paperwork packages, and ensure all required signatures are obtained promptly and correctly.
- Provide quarterly statements to residents, securing all necessary acknowledgements and signatures.
- Assist with the annual Unclaimed Property Report and diligently respond to state audits or official surveys as required.
- Keep organized files, maintaining a reliable, accessible, and comprehensive paper-based record-keeping system.
Qualifications
- An Associate degree in Accounting with 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills are paramount.
- Comfortable and proficient working efficiently in a paper-based environment (including printing, organizing, and systematic filing).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be patient, approachable, and consistently professional in all daily interactions with residents.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively under strict regulatory oversight and meet stringent deadlines.
