Project Engineer Co-op | Messer Construction Co.
The Tone:
This is a co-op position at Messer Construction Co., located directly at various project sites. Messer is an award-winning, employee-owned general contractor and construction manager, renowned for its leadership in delivering complex commercial building projects across the healthcare and higher education sectors throughout the Midwest and Southeast. This role is integral to the project team, providing essential support to the site Project Manager and Project Engineer in the comprehensive management and daily administration of construction projects, thereby contributing directly to successful outcomes that positively shape our communities.

• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), iPads
What You’ll Actually Do
• Site & Building Layout: Assist with the accurate layout of project sites and building components, ensuring alignment with project plans and specifications.
• Document Control: Manage and maintain comprehensive project documentation, ensuring all necessary records are meticulously organized and readily accessible for team reference.
• Quality Control: Support the implementation and vigilant monitoring of quality assurance processes to ensure all construction work consistently meets specified standards and client expectations.
• Project Controls Input: Contribute meaningfully to project scheduling efforts, participate in cost reporting, and assist in the development of effective Project Management solutions.
• Subcontractor & Workforce Coordination: Assist in coordinating the daily activities of subcontractors and the on-site workforce, ensuring smooth operations and timely progress.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Experience: No specific years of prior experience are required for this co-op role.
• Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for interacting effectively with all levels of employees and project stakeholders. Strong organizational abilities are required, alongside the capacity to efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously within a project environment.
• Bonus: A preferred focus on Civil Engineering or Construction Management within your degree, with an emphasis on construction processes, industry knowledge, and delivery methods.
