Position Overview:

This entry-level Junior Engineer position in Norfolk, VA, offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in construction and project management. The role involves supporting daily site operations, maintaining documentation, and collaborating with project teams, all while adhering to industry standards and safety protocols. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate daily onsite work activities.
  • Complete daily production reports accurately.
  • Maintain a daily log of job site operations and report to project management as necessary.
  • Update and maintain the project schedule regularly.
  • Confirm that materials used onsite match approved submissions.
  • Conduct site walks for new work and assist in project bids by coordinating with contractors.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design and project requirements are met.
  • Perform fieldwork, inspections, or testing as required to gather data and support engineering activities.
  • Stay current with industry standards, technologies, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: 0-1 years of related experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Other Characteristics:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Adobe, RMS (Resource Management System), and Bluebeam.
  • Understanding of organizational procedures and workflows.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant technologies or tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, communication platforms, or industry-standard software).
  • Knowledge of customer service practices, including principles of providing quality service and managing inquiries professionally.
  • Awareness of data privacy and confidentiality principles for handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem-solving and critical thinking abilities to analyze issues and select appropriate solutions.
  • Solid interpersonal and teamwork skills for building rapport and collaborating effectively with others.
  • Exceptional attention to detail for producing accurate, error-free work.

Physical Requirements:

The role requires maintaining a constant state of mental alertness. Employees must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment:

This position is based on active construction sites, involving regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind). The environment may include uneven terrain, loud noise levels, dust, and construction equipment. Candidates must be comfortable working around heavy machinery, power tools, and potentially hazardous materials while strictly following safety protocols. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests, and steel-toed boots is required. Work may involve heights, confined spaces, or proximity to moving vehicles and equipment. It is a team-based environment requiring collaboration among site workers, supervisors, and contractors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

DOT Covered/Safety-Sensitive Role Requirements:

This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety-sensitive” functions.

Additional Qualifying Factors:

As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, the successful candidate must also obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels and be able to obtain access to military installations.
