Groundperson
The Groundperson is a vital role responsible for supporting tree care and landscaping operations. This entry-level position involves a combination of manual labor, equipment operation, and safety oversight. Key responsibilities include managing brush and debris, operating a chainsaw, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe working environment for the team.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
- Debris Management: Gathering and feeding brush and other debris into a woodchipper.
- Safety Oversight: Actively scanning work areas for potential trip and fall hazards and ensuring all team members remain clear of the woodchipper’s path of travel.
- Equipment Operation: Operating a chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps, particularly for larger trees.
- Equipment Maintenance: Servicing vehicles and equipment to maintain them in a neat, clean, and specified mechanical order.
- Manual Labor: Dragging, gathering, and feeding brush into the wood chipper, which involves significant physical exertion.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years-of-age or older.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- This is an entry-level position; no prior experience is required.
- Previous experience in a similar role is considered a plus.
Pre-Screen Requirements:

License & Certifications:
- A Driver’s License is preferred, but not strictly required for this position.
Physical Requirements:
The Groundperson role demands a high degree of physical fitness and the ability to perform various strenuous tasks. The following outlines the frequency of physical demands:
- RARE (less than 10%): Sitting, Crawling, Climbing Poles, Color Vision, Climbing Ladders, Climbing Stairs.
- OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): Stooping, Kneeling, Squatting, Body Twisting, Sense of Touch, Climbing on/off Truck, Gripping, Lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Reaching, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling, Climbing Ladders, Balancing, Lifting over 50 lbs.
- FREQUENT (up to 66%): Standing, Walking, Manual Dexterity, Seeing Distant, Seeing, Reading, Range of Motion, Hearing-Speech Range, Depth Perception, Climbing Stairs, Lifting up to 10 lbs.
- CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): Sense of Touch, Gripping, Seeing, Carrying, Pulling.
