The Tone:
This is a contract remote role at Varsity Tutors, a company building a Live Learning Platform that utilizes advanced technology and AI to transform how people learn. This position is crucial for providing highly personalized learning experiences to students nationwide. Tutors play a significant role in improving students’ SAT Math scores and overall test readiness. The aim is to foster better educational outcomes and cultivate a lasting passion for learning in students.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct & Guide: Deliver comprehensive, personalized instruction on all advanced SAT Math topics, guiding students through problem-solving techniques, word problem translation, accurate equation setup, and graph interpretation to ensure concept mastery.
• Strategize: Teach effective SAT-specific strategies including multiple solution pathways, estimation, pattern recognition, strategic approach selection (e.g., plugging in numbers, backsolving), and time management across all 58 questions.
• Adapt: Customize instruction by adapting to individual learning styles, utilizing timed practice sections, conducting detailed error analysis, and developing targeted drills and formula sheet creation for student weak areas.
• Enhance: Employ the AI-powered Tutor Copilot to augment sessions with real-time instructional support, generate lessons, and integrate engaging features to save prep time and focus on impactful teaching.
• Manage: Handle all session logistics, including invoicing for completed tutoring sessions and having the option to accept on-demand instant tutoring requests when available.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Achieve a minimum SAT Math score of 720 and possess deep, comprehensive mastery of all SAT Math content areas including linear equations, systems, inequalities, algebraic expressions, quadratic functions, exponential growth, ratios and proportions, percentages, data interpretation, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, and complex numbers.
• Experience: Demonstrate a proven track record of significantly improving student SAT Math subscores, coupled with familiarity in SAT Math question distribution, common traps (e.g., misreading questions, sign errors), and high-frequency topics.
• Skills:
• Advanced Instructional Clarity: Ability to clearly explain calculator-permitted versus no-calculator strategies, grid-in answer formatting, and complex math concepts using multiple approaches.
• Strategic Teaching: Proficiency in teaching multiple solution pathways, effective estimation techniques, pattern recognition, and guiding students through word problem translation, accurate equation setup, graph interpretation, and identifying the fastest solution methods.
• Adaptive Pedagogy: Expertise in adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and diverse learning styles, identifying concepts students commonly struggle with, and delivering targeted support through timed practice sections, detailed error analysis, and formula sheet creation.
• Engaging Communication: Strong communication skills combined with a friendly and engaging teaching style to motivate and connect with students, fostering a positive learning environment.
