What We Look For In an SAT Math Tutor

  • Advanced Math Content Mastery: Possess deep knowledge across all SAT Math topics, including:
    • Linear equations, systems, and inequalities
    • Algebraic expressions
    • Quadratic functions and exponential growth
    • Ratios, proportions, and percentages
    • Data interpretation and statistics
    • Geometry and trigonometry
    • Complex numbers

    Ability to explain calculator-permitted versus no-calculator strategies and grid-in answer formatting for score maximization.

  • Strategic Problem-Solving & Reasoning: Skilled at teaching:
    • Multiple solution pathways and estimation techniques
    • Pattern recognition in SAT math questions
    • Word problem translation and equation setup
    • Graph interpretation
    • Identifying fastest solution methods
    • Strategic approach selection (e.g., plugging in numbers, backsolving, algebraic methods) and time management across 58 questions.
  • Test Strategy & Adaptive Instruction: Familiarity with:
    • SAT Math question distribution, common traps (e.g., misreading questions, sign errors), and high-frequency topics.
    • Ability to adapt instruction through timed practice sections, error analysis, formula sheet creation, and targeted drills for weak areas.

    Minimum Requirement: A proven track record helping students significantly improve math subscores, alongside a minimum SAT Math score of 720.

  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to:
    • Identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
    • Explain material using multiple approaches.
    • Adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Possess excellent communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
