This role is crucial for providing customized instruction to elementary students, significantly impacting their academic success and deepening their understanding of mathematics.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide personalized instruction to individual elementary school students in mathematics through 1-on-1 and instant online tutoring sessions.
• Break down complex math concepts, such as multi-digit operations, fractions, and word problems, using hands-on manipulatives, drawings, and visual models.
• Adapt teaching methods, including games, base-ten blocks, and multi-sensory approaches, to meet the diverse learning needs and developmental levels of young learners.
• Utilize the AI-powered Tutor Copilot to enhance sessions with real-time instructional support, lesson generation, and engaging features, saving prep time.
• Invoice for all completed tutoring sessions, allowing Varsity Tutors to manage the payment processing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Deep knowledge of elementary mathematics, covering number sense, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, basic fractions and decimals, measurement, time, money, geometry shapes, patterns, and introductory data interpretation.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability in conceptual teaching, including guiding students through skip counting, place value understanding, basic geometric reasoning, and measurement conversions, while connecting math to everyday contexts. Familiarity with elementary math standards for grades one through five and common challenges like regrouping in subtraction and understanding fractions.
• Skills:
• Ability to explain counting strategies, regrouping, and fact fluency to build strong arithmetic foundations for upper elementary and middle school readiness.
• Proficiency in identifying concepts students commonly struggle with and explaining material using multiple approaches and adaptive instruction.
• Strong communication skills complemented by a friendly and engaging teaching style suitable for young learners.
• Capability to adapt instruction effectively to different learning styles and individual student needs.
