Job Description

About the Job: Engineering Intern – Advanced Materials & Manufacturing

Company: Intech

Intech is a custom manufacturing company specializing in advanced radiation shielding materials and engineered products. We innovate, develop, and manufacture both traditional and cutting-edge (lead-free) shielding solutions for critical applications in the medical, industrial, and government sectors.

This summer, we are excited to offer a hands-on Engineering Internship. This role provides a unique opportunity to directly support projects in polymer extrusion, materials development, and additive manufacturing. It’s an ideal fit for students passionate about materials science, plastics processing, or mechanical engineering.

Role Description

This is a highly practical internship; you will not be confined to a desk. You will be actively involved in a real production environment, working directly with polymer extrusion systems, engaging in hands-on materials development, and supporting additive manufacturing processes.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Compounding and Testing: Work with various filled polymers, including PETG, HDPE, and elastomers, incorporating metal powders to create advanced materials.
  • System Operation: Gain direct experience operating both filament and pellet extrusion systems.
  • Real-World Troubleshooting: Tackle and resolve practical manufacturing challenges such as clogging, poor dispersion of materials, and diameter inconsistency in extruded products.
  • Process Improvement: Design and run experiments aimed at enhancing material performance and improving the stability of manufacturing processes.
  • Additive Manufacturing Support: Contribute to projects involving 3D printing with advanced and specialized materials.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Educational Background: Strong academic foundation in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • Passion for Materials: A genuine and strong interest in polymers, plastics, or manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-On Aptitude: Comfortable and enthusiastic about working in a dynamic, hands-on shop environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Possess a curious mindset, self-motivation, and the ability to independently identify and solve problems.

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • Advanced Materials Exposure: Gain invaluable experience working with cutting-edge metal-filled and other advanced materials.
  • Practical Manufacturing Experience: Acquire real-world skills in both extrusion and additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Impactful Contributions: Your work will directly contribute to actual production runs and significant R&D projects.
  • Portfolio Building: Develop a substantial portfolio of practical work and accomplishments that extends far beyond typical classroom assignments.

Details:

  • Location: Spring, TX (near I-45 & Rayford Road)
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
