This Entry Level GIS Technician position is crucial for analyzing geographic information about the earth’s surface and its objects, providing essential technical and analytical support. • Mission: Analyze geographic information and provide technical and analytical support for creating and maintaining maps and databases.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Data Collection: Collect in-field GIS data as a member of the Pole Transfer/Joint Use Make Ready Team.
• Measurement & Design: Utilize telescoping hasting sticks and digital measuring technologies to accurately assess joint use attachment heights and utility distribution lines, making informed in-field design suggestions.
• GIS Database Management: Collect field data using proprietary software to update utility GIS systems and inform design determinations.
• Data Compilation & Analysis: Compile geographic data from diverse sources such as censuses, field observation, satellite imagery, and aerial photographs, then analyze spatial data to derive geographic statistics for documents and reports.
• Cartographic Mapping: Enter new map data by applying cartography principles, including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professionals with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, GIS, or any related environmental or technical field.
• Experience: 0-1 year of experience in GIS or the environmental sector, including practical experience with in-field data collection.
• Skills: Proficiency in GIS software, specifically Esri’s ArcGIS suite, a strong understanding of cartography principles, and general computer skills.
• Bonus: Previous outdoor field experience, such as from internships or academic projects.
