The Tone:
This is a contract role at Varsity Tutors, located remotely. Varsity Tutors operates a Live Learning Platform that leverages advanced technology, AI, and learning science to deliver personalized educational experiences. This role is essential for supporting thousands of students nationwide, offering flexible opportunities for tutors to make a significant impact on students’ academic success and deepen their understanding of graduate-level statistics. Tutors will work from the comfort of their home, setting their own schedule.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Deliver personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring sessions and respond to instant tutoring requests to support students in advanced statistics.
• Deconstruct: Skillfully break down complex theoretical concepts such as likelihood function derivations, posterior distribution calculations, and ANOVA decompositions.
• Guide: Lead students through practical applications, including designing experiments, performing multivariate analysis, constructing confidence regions, and implementing statistical models in software.
• Prepare: Ready masters and doctoral students for advanced research methodology and high-level statistical analysis, emphasizing theoretical foundations and connections to fields like biostatistics, econometrics, and machine learning.
• Adapt: Tailor instructional approaches and materials using statistical computing tools like R or Python, relevant research paper examples, and proof-based exercises to meet diverse individual learning needs and styles.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a deep, graduate-level understanding and advanced subject mastery in mathematical statistics and related fields.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to prepare students effectively for research methodology and doctoral-level statistical analysis, familiar with common graduate curricula challenges.
• Skills:
1. Profound knowledge of mathematical statistics, maximum likelihood estimation, hypothesis testing theory, Bayesian inference, regression analysis, and multivariate methods.
2. Expertise in explaining complex concepts such as asymptotic theory, the Neyman-Pearson lemma, and generalized linear models using multiple approaches.
3. Proficiency in utilizing statistical computing tools like R or Python to support adaptive instruction and problem-solving.
4. Strong communication skills and an engaging teaching style, adept at identifying student struggles and adapting to individual learning needs.
