What You’ll Actually Do
• Deliver Personalized Instruction: Provide customized, one-on-one online tutoring sessions to graduate-level students covering advanced statistical concepts.
• Clarify Complex Theories: Explain intricate topics such as asymptotic theory, Neyman-Pearson lemma, maximum likelihood estimation, and Bayesian inference in an accessible manner.
• Guide Problem-Solving: Coach students through designing experiments, conducting multivariate analyses, deriving statistical properties, and applying models in statistical software like R or Python.
• Support Research Preparation: Prepare students for research methodology and doctoral-level statistical analysis, connecting theoretical foundations to real-world applications in biostatistics, econometrics, and machine learning.
• Adapt Teaching Strategies: Adjust instructional approaches, using multiple explanations and resources like research papers and proof-based exercises, to match individual learning styles and common challenges.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Advanced academic background reflecting deep knowledge of mathematical statistics, including maximum likelihood estimation, hypothesis testing theory, Bayesian inference, regression analysis, and multivariate methods.
• Experience: Proven ability to break down complex statistical derivations and calculations, guide students in designing experiments, and implement statistical models using software; familiarity with graduate statistics curricula and common learning challenges.
• Skills: Mastery of statistical theory (e.g., sufficient statistics, experimental design, nonparametric statistics), strong conceptual teaching and problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication with an engaging, adaptable teaching style.
