Strategic Initiatives Intern – Summer 2026 | UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE)

The Tone:
This is a seasonal internship at UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE), located in Evanston, IL or Raleigh-Durham, NC, with a hybrid work opportunity. ULSE expands the boundaries of safety science, creating new safety standards and sharing findings with academia, scientists, manufacturers, and policymakers to build a more secure and sustainable world. This role is crucial for shaping ULSE’s organizational strategy, driving impactful changes, and supporting executive-level decisions within a mission-driven non-profit environment.

• Mission: Supports strategic planning, enterprise-wide projects, and executive decision-making within a non-profit.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Research & Analysis: Conduct research and synthesize insights on industry trends, technology, and policy to support the execution of ULSE’s multi-year organizational strategy.
• Executive Support: Prepare strategic updates, presentations, and briefing materials for executive leadership.
• Project Coordination: Coordinate and deliver on cross-functional strategic projects, such as technology roadmaps or new product/service evaluations.
• Trend Monitoring: Monitor external developments in standards and safety advocacy, summarizing findings to inform ULSE’s strategic priorities and decisions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or advanced degree program in a related field, with a strong interest in the non-profit sector related to safety, social or environmental issues, and/or strategy, organizational development, or management.
• Experience: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills, excellent communication and writing skills, highly organized and detail-oriented, and a collaborative mindset.
• Bonus: Experience with data analytics or visualization tools.
