Blue Bird’s Summer Internship Program

Blue Bird is seeking high-performing talent to join its Summer Internship Program. This program is designed for individuals who share a passion for purpose, innovation, and creating real-world impact. The experience aims to build a sustainable pipeline of entry-level talent, and based on performance, interns may be considered for Blue Bird’s early career rotational pathway, known as the Future Drivers Leadership Program (FDLP).

Internship Structure and Deliverables:

  • Interns will complete meaningful functional work within their assigned department.
  • Each intern will undertake a special project that delivers measurable value to the business.
  • The internship concludes with a final project presentation to the leadership team.
  • Performance and demonstrated readiness will be key factors for any post-internship employment consideration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Interns

While specific responsibilities will vary by function, all interns can expect to:

  • Complete assigned work that supports departmental goals within a fast-paced, purpose-driven manufacturing and business environment.
  • Support process improvement, problem-solving, and operational efficiency by utilizing data, observation, and collaboration.
  • Participate in a core functional assignment and a special project designed to deliver measurable value to the business.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes effectively to peers, mentors, and leaders through written, verbal, and presentation formats.
  • Apply a continuous improvement mindset by asking insightful questions, learning quickly, and adapting to feedback.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and safe work practices, particularly when working in plant, production, or operational environments.
  • Showcase learnings obtained during the internship program by presenting the outcomes of key projects to members of the Leadership Team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Success

  • Ability to gather information, utilize data, and think critically to support recommendations and decisions.
  • Ability to plan work, manage time effectively, follow through on tasks, and deliver results by deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration skills, including the ability to build trust, communicate clearly, and work effectively across diverse teams.
  • Curiosity, an improvement-minded approach, and a willingness to explore better ways to work, solve problems, and serve customers.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) for the defined internship period.

Basic Education and Experience Required

  • Current Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate-level student pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree aligned to one of the functional areas listed above.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age prior to the start of the internship assignment.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
