This Train Operator role is central to the company’s operations, directly responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight trains, ensuring reliable cargo transportation while upholding all railway and federal regulations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Train Operations: Manage and operate freight trains and locomotives safely and efficiently, ensuring their mechanical function and protection, and strictly observing all rules for the secure transportation of cargo.
• Rail Yard Management: Execute the placement of freight cars to facilitate efficient loading and unloading, and perform the makeup and breakdown of trains within rail yards, industrial plants, or similar locations.
• Operational Communication: Maintain precise and timely communication through hand signals and radio, and utilize electronic devices for entering car movement and verifying GCOR and other operational rules to ensure the safe movement of trains and equipment.
• Regulatory Compliance: Consistently adhere to all established railway and Federal Railroad Administration rules and procedures, working outdoors in all weather conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum of a High School Diploma is required; this role involves ensuring safe transportation of cargo by adhering to railway and Federal Railroad Administration rules and procedures, requiring a foundational understanding of operational safety.
• Experience: No specific prior experience is required; however, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license, be prepared for Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Part 219), and comply with a 35-minute residency requirement. The role involves working an irregular 40-hour week, including potential weekends and holidays, outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Skills: Possess proven mechanical aptitude and keen attention to detail for managing train functions; demonstrate effective communication skills using various methods, including hand signals and radio; exhibit the ability to assume accountability and manage situations effectively, especially in high-stress scenarios.
• Bonus: Preferred previous experience working rotating shifts or other types of shift work.
