Entry-Level Data Center Cabling Technician | TEKsystems

• Mission: Support large-scale data center operations by performing precise cabling, fiber installation, and equipment racking to ensure robust infrastructure.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Structured Cabling: Interpret complex cable maps, adhere to labeling standards, and route/install cabling precisely according to documentation and site standards.
• Fiber Management: Perform pulling, routing, staging, and dressing of large-count fiber trunks (144-count and 288-count), including meticulous installation of fiber patch cords.
• Equipment Installation: Install, secure, and meticulously organize server and network equipment within racks and cabinets, ensuring compliance with all industry and site standards.
• Deployment Support: Assist with server and rack deployment activities across multiple data center locations in Northern Virginia, adapting to various operational needs.
• Documentation Adherence: Consistently follow all technical documentation, established standards, and quality expectations for all cabling and equipment tasks.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early career professional with a minimum of 6+ months of experience in data center cabling or commercial structured cabling.
• Experience: Hands-on experience with fiber installation, including large-count trunks and patching, and familiarity with data center or telecommunications environments.
• Skills: Ability to read and accurately follow technical documentation and labeling standards; strong attention to detail for professional, high-quality workmanship; willingness to work days, nights, and weekends; comfortable traveling between multiple job sites in Northern Virginia.
• Bonus: Exposure to server hardware, racks, and network equipment installations; demonstrated interest in learning networking fundamentals; experience in post-construction environments or ISP backbone work.
