Job Summary: Custodian
The Custodian provides coordinated janitorial services in the school and parish buildings. This role also includes providing set-up and cleaning services for evening or weekend activities in the parish facilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains church, other parish buildings, and school in a clean and orderly manner. This may include:
- Dust mopping, vacuuming, and waxing of floors.
- Cleaning bathrooms.
- Washing walls and windows.
- Trash removal.
- Performs scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and in accordance with the parish maintenance schedule. These duties include:
- Floor waxing.
- Painting.
- Window washing.
- Carpet cleaning.
- Inspects and cleans walls for graffiti and markings, if necessary.
- Performs light maintenance as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Cleans up litter outside and performs groundskeeping tasks.
- Duties may include facility set-up, hauling, and moving of furniture and equipment.
Job Requirements
- Must have knowledge of janitorial equipment, supplies, and their applications.
- Knowledge of and experience with industrial-strength cleaning chemicals required.
- Previous janitorial experience required.

- General knowledge and support of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites, and liturgies.
- Must have the ability to perform outlined tasks with minimum supervision and be self-motivated.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to tolerate varying temperatures and climate changes.
- Frequent lifting; must be able to lift at least 50 – 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule with evening and/or weekend hours.
