The Tone:
This role is focused on maintaining a clean and orderly environment within the school and parish buildings for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, located in Eureka, MO. The Archdiocese is dedicated to teaching faith, serving others, and fostering unity across the St. Louis area, with its headquarters at the Cardinal Rigali Center. This position is vital for ensuring that all parish facilities are welcoming and functional for daily use, educational purposes, and various community activities. The Custodian directly supports the Archdiocesan mission by upholding the physical integrity and cleanliness of its spaces, ensuring they are always ready for the community.

• Team: Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Mission: To maintain comprehensive cleanliness and order across school and parish buildings, facilitating a suitable environment for religious, educational, and community activities, thereby upholding the mission and values of the Archdiocese.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Routine Cleaning: Maintain the church, school, and other parish buildings in a consistently clean and orderly manner, performing daily tasks such as dust mopping, vacuuming, waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms, washing walls and windows, and managing trash removal.
• Scheduled Maintenance: Execute a range of scheduled monthly, semi-annual, or annual janitorial duties, including thorough floor waxing, painting, comprehensive window washing, and professional carpet cleaning, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor and according to the parish maintenance schedule.
• Exterior and Graffiti Control: Inspect and clean walls for graffiti and other markings as necessary, alongside actively managing and cleaning up litter outside the buildings and performing essential groundskeeping tasks to maintain exterior tidiness.
• Event Support: Provide crucial logistical support for evening or weekend parish activities by assisting with the setup, hauling, and moving of furniture and various equipment within the facilities.
• Minor Repairs: Perform light maintenance tasks throughout the school and parish properties, addressing minor issues as instructed and directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Demonstrated practical experience in the field of janitorial services and facility upkeep.
• Experience: Required previous experience working as a janitor, including a strong understanding and hands-on application of industrial-strength cleaning chemicals, as well as proficiency with various janitorial equipment and supplies.
• Skills: Ability to perform all assigned tasks effectively with minimal supervision, exhibiting self-motivation and a strong capacity for maintaining confidentiality regarding parish and school matters.
• Bonus: General knowledge and active support for the tenets of the Catholic Church, including its sacraments, rites, and liturgies.
