This is an itinerant, multi-functional bargaining unit role based at Florida Power & Light Company’s West County Plant in Loxahatchee, Florida, with extensive travel required across the state to support fleet outages. The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time (Normal schedule is a day shift, Monday-Friday; significant overtime expected)
• Type: Itinerant
• Location: Loxahatchee, FL (Extensive travel across Florida required)
• Team: Reports to a Maintenance Leader or Itinerant Maintenance Leader
• Mission: To perform precision machining and multi-functional maintenance duties, ensuring the reliability of power generation equipment across FPL’s fleet during overhauls, outages, and special projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Precision Machining: Operate all types of machine tools, performing highly precise jobs to exacting tolerances that necessitate the use of specialized precision tools, instruments, or gauges for accurate measurement.
• Comprehensive Maintenance: Execute preventive maintenance tasks to ensure the proper function of equipment, and perform thorough maintenance inspections on, as well as construct, install, and repair various mechanical equipment and structures.
• Multi-Disciplinary Support: Contribute across multiple maintenance disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and instrument & control, leveraging personal capabilities and qualifications to support diverse operational needs safely.
• Workplace Management & Tools: Utilize a wide range of hand tools and other necessary equipment to maintain a safe, clean, and productive work environment, potentially managing stock and records for plant mechanical materials, tools, and spare parts.
• Fleet Outage & Project Travel: Undertake extensive travel across the state of Florida, providing critical support for fleet overhauls, outages, and special projects at various work locations as business requirements dictate, with varying shifts and days.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Requires a journey-level machinist classification, which can be evidenced by previously holding the classification, completing a machinist trainee program under a journey-level machinist, or possessing equivalent qualifications from college or military schooling. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform the minimum qualifications of a journey-level mechanic.
• Experience: Candidates must possess proven experience in operating a full range of machine tools to execute precision tasks requiring high tolerance, along with practical experience in performing preventive maintenance, maintenance inspections, and the construction, installation, and repair of diverse mechanical equipment and structures.
• Skills: Essential skills include expert use of precision tools, instruments, and gauges for measurement, proficiency with hand tools, and holding a valid (NON CDL) Driver’s License. Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Position Selection System (Pwr Plt Mtce Pos Sel Sys) Test is also a mandatory requirement.
