About the Job
WSP is seeking a Full-Time Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to join their US Mine Waste Team. This role is available in Reno, NV, Elko, NV, or Costa Mesa, CA. This is an opportunity to work on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects as part of a growing organization.
Your Impact (Responsibilities)
As an Early Career Civil/Geotechnical Engineer, you will be involved in various aspects of civil and geotechnical engineering projects, primarily for the mining industry, with potential for involvement in other sectors. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Engineering Tasks:
- Performing site and material characterization.
- Designing facilities including grading, storage capacity, and construction quantity evaluations.
- Conducting various analyses such as slope stability, seepage, consolidation, liner system, and settlement analyses.
- Designing and analyzing surface water management facilities.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Preparing sections of technical reports documenting field/laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and facility designs.
- Assisting with the preparation of comprehensive project design packages, including technical drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site notebooks/logs.
- Field Assignments:
- Performing domestic and international field assignments, which may include geotechnical investigations and construction monitoring.
- Safety and Ethics:
- Complying with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
- Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Professional Development:
- Completing training on assigned tasks.
- Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience: 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Certification: Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam or the ability to complete it within 6 months of the start date.
- Skills:
- Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills, effectively and professionally interacting with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Proficient self-leadership, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Workplace Standards:
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Flexibility:
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional domestic and international travel may be required depending on project needs.
- Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical engineering, or a relevant field of study.
- Prior internship experience related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- Membership and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation (California Only): The expected salary range for this position is $58,200 – $87,300. WSP USA determines compensation based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to adjust this range based on circumstances not related to protected status.
