Registered Nurse – University Hospital-Operating Room Internship | Michigan Medicine

The TL;DR

• Mission: Prepare graduate and registered nurses for a new role as perioperative nurses through a structured educational program.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program Completion: Successfully complete a comprehensive six-month operating room orientation program.
• Skill Development: Acquire a wide range of skills and knowledge essential for a perioperative nurse role.
• Learning Engagement: Participate in educational activities across classroom, laboratory, and patient care environments.
• Operational Shifts: Work 40 hours per week, including day/evening shifts, call, and weekend/holiday obligations.
• Role Commitment: Provide a two-year commitment to working in the University Hospital-Operating Room after completing the internship.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current Michigan RN license for candidates who have passed the NCLEX. Graduate Nurse (GN) applicants will be considered, with 45 days from hire to pass the NCLEX for Michigan RN licensure.
• Experience: Entry-level career, suitable for graduate nurses or registered nurses seeking specialized training.
• Skills: Ability to meet call commitment with a 30-minute response time.
• Bonus: BSN degree; prior Operating Room experience; a proven satisfactory attendance record; ability to effectively manage stress, conflict, and resolution; strong interpersonal skills and teamwork capabilities; comfort working with non-responsive patient populations.
