Assistant Instructor | Black Rocket

The Tone:
This is a seasonal contract role at Black Rocket, located in partner regions where you will work in-room with children. Black Rocket provides unique educational programs that blend creativity with technology, focusing on self-empowerment and critical thinking. This role is crucial for inspiring kids aged 6-14, enhancing their learning, and igniting their distinct talents through hands-on experiences with technology.

• Type: Seasonal (4-10 weeks), Monday through Friday
• Location: In-person, partner regions
• Pay: $13–$15 hourly
• Mission: Inspire kids aged 6-14 in technology, digital arts, and STEM education, fostering creativity and critical thinking.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Work directly with children aged 6-14 in a classroom setting, guiding them through engaging technology programs.
• Support: Assist students in various tech education fields including video games, coding, app design, digital arts, and robotics.
• Troubleshoot: Apply strong technical and troubleshooting skills to resolve issues and support student learning.
• Train: Complete paid online training modules at your own pace prior to the start of summer programs in May.
• Inspire: Foster a fun, creative, and problem-solving environment through hands-on learning experiences.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be 18 years of age or older. College students studying education, computer science, digital arts, information technology, or similar fields are encouraged to apply.
• Experience: No formal experience is required; however, experience with children in an educational setting is preferred. Experience in formal or informal settings like babysitting, volunteering, coaching, or tutoring is a plus. Must be available to work a minimum of 4 weeks, Monday through Friday.
• Skills: Strong technology skills, such as 3D modeling, coding (Python, Javascript, Lua), game creation, design, animation, robotics, modifying games, video editing, digital arts, competitive gaming, or significant knowledge of Minecraft/Roblox. Strong troubleshooting skills and a genuine love for working with kids are essential.
• Bonus: Located within driving distance of a Black Rocket partner region with reliable transportation. Available to start online training in May.
