About the Role: Engineering Intern (Hardware & Software Design)
At Tyonek, we are seeking highly motivated engineering students eager to contribute to the defense of our nation by engaging in both hardware and software design. We are looking for individuals with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and excellent troubleshooting skills.
Internship Details
- Location: In-person
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week) during the summer break, typically from May to August.
- Flexibility: Start and end dates are flexible to accommodate academic schedules.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create, update, maintain, and execute test procedures for various systems.
- Document all process steps and thoroughly record testing data.
- Collaborate closely with engineers on hardware and test software design initiatives.
- Engage in problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting activities to resolve technical issues.
- Demonstrate familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the engineering field.
- Possess familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Perform a diverse range of tasks as required by projects.
- Report directly to a supervisor or manager.
- Execute other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
- Academic Standing: Currently a 3rd or 4th-year student pursuing a degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering is preferred. Expected graduation in 2023 or 2024.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in C is required; experience with C++ and Java is a plus.
- Technical Experience:
- Experience with testing Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and other electronic systems.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, and Multi-meters.
- Software Proficiency: Good working knowledge of MS Office software.
- Problem-Solving: Possess a creative mind for troubleshooting, finding, and resolving complex problems.
- Citizenship: Must be a US citizen.
- Additional: Tyonek maintains a drug-free workplace and performs post-offer, pre-employment substance abuse testing.
Physical Requirements
To successfully perform the essential duties of this job, an individual must be able to meet the following physical demands:
- Ability to walk or stand on level and/or inclined surfaces and sit for various periods throughout the day.
- Ability to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands, including working at heights with appropriate fall protection devices.
- Ability to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend at the elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry for short distances.
- Ability to distinguish colors and judge three-dimensional depth.
- Work primarily in a normal office environment with controlled temperature and lighting conditions.
