Junior Staff Counsel | Crystal Stairs, Inc.
The Tone:
This is a full-time, onsite legal role at Crystal Stairs, Inc., located in Los Angeles, CA. Crystal Stairs is a California nonprofit corporation dedicated to improving the lives of families through child care services, research, and advocacy, specifically for working low-income families. This role serves as internal legal counsel, providing essential support in areas like contracts, labor and employment, and corporate matters, directly contributing to the organization’s mission and operational integrity. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated, mission-driven legal professional.
The TL;DR

• Team: Works with the Chief Compliance Officer/General Counsel
• Mission: To serve as internal legal counsel, primarily managing contract matters and ensuring corporate, legal, and regulatory compliance for the organization.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, contract management systems or software
What You’ll Actually Do
• Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contractual documents, including funding contracts, grants, vendor agreements, and leases.
• System Oversight: Manage the contract management system to effectively regulate and track the contract process workflow.
• Compliance Assurance: Ensure all activities comply with Crystal Stairs’ policies, procedures, and applicable County, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Policy Development: Assist in the creation and implementation of organizational policies, procedures, and related training programs.
• Legal Advising: Conduct research and provide sound legal advice and counsel to Crystal Stairs on areas such as real estate, contracts, labor and employment, and corporate governance.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Active member of the California Bar in good standing with a law degree from a nationally accredited law school. Must be dedicated to the mission of child care development for low-income families.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a practicing attorney, with at least one year of solid experience drafting and reviewing contracts required. One year of experience working in-house as corporate counsel is preferred.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of contract law principles, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to provide sound legal advice based on thorough research.
• Bonus: Knowledge of contract management systems or software.
