Assistant Instructor | Black Rocket

The Tone:
This is a seasonal contract role at Black Rocket, located in one of their partner regions across over 30 states. Black Rocket provides unique educational programs to children and young adults, focusing on the intersection of creativity and technology. This role is crucial for engaging kids aged 6-14 in hands-on learning experiences with technology, inspiring their talents, and fostering critical thinking. It offers an opportunity to make summer fun and educational for students.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Student Engagement: Guide and supervise children aged 6-14, ensuring a fun and engaging learning environment centered around technology.
• Curriculum Support: Assist lead instructors in delivering Black Rocket’s unique enrichment programs, focusing on creativity and technology.
• Technical Facilitation: Help students explore and create with various tools, including coding (Python, Javascript, Lua), game design (Roblox, Minecraft), digital arts, video editing, and robotics.
• Problem Solving: Provide hands-on technical assistance and troubleshooting to students encountering challenges with software or hardware.
• Inspiration: Empower students by igniting their distinct talents and encouraging critical thinking through hands-on, project-based learning.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum 18 years of age. Individuals currently studying education, computer science, digital arts, information technology, or similar fields are encouraged to apply.
• Experience: Availability to work a seasonal position for a minimum of 4 weeks, Monday through Friday, starting in June. Prior experience working with children in either formal (educational settings) or informal roles (babysitting, volunteering, coaching, tutoring) is beneficial, though not strictly required.
• Skills: A strong, genuine enthusiasm for working with children aged 6-14. Demonstrated strong technology skills in areas such as 3D modeling, coding, game creation or design, animation, robotics, modifying games, video editing, or significant knowledge of platforms like Minecraft or Roblox. Strong troubleshooting skills are essential for success in this role.
• Bonus: Must be located within driving distance of one of Black Rocket’s partner regions and possess reliable transportation. Ability to complete paid online training at your own pace in May prior to the summer season. Must be authorized to work in the United States; no accommodations or work sponsorship are available.
