This GIS Specialist Internship is a pivotal role within the Renewables team, offering support to renewable energy projects through technical expertise and innovative GIS applications. The firm is searching for a dynamic GIS Intern possessing knowledge in spatial analysis, cartography, and data management. Duties And Responsibilities

  • Spatial Analysis & Cartography: Assist in the creation, management, analysis, and display of spatial data using various GIS software.
  • Data Interpretation & Management: Develop skills in independent data interpretation while maintaining comprehensive documentation. Support the management and updating of existing GIS datasets, ensuring their relevance and accuracy.
  • Project Support: Contribute to the design and enhancement of GIS methodologies aimed at improving project efficiency. Provide support to project teams by delivering customized data and graphics solutions.
  • Technical Solutions: Aid in the development of detailed and technically proficient solutions, ensuring clear and accurate presentation of spatial data across diverse media.
  • Collaborative Projects: Participate in a variety of energy and land development projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to offer GIS support and insights.
  • GIS Application Development: Assist in the innovation of desktop and mobile GIS applications, strictly adhering to established quality assurance and control standards.

You Will Be Expected To

  • Challenge existing processes to devise new and more efficient methodologies.
  • Create tools and scripts to automate frequently executed tasks.
  • Collaborate with end-users, produce mapping products, and conduct complex GIS analyses utilizing the ArcGIS Platform.
  • Generate technically skilled and detailed solutions through the preparation of clear, complete, and accurate representations of spatial data via hardcopy and/or electronic media.
  • Develop and maintain geospatial data across desktop and mobile applications, ensuring data adheres to appropriate accuracy and content standards for quality assurance and quality control.
  • Work on diverse energy projects, including wind, solar, and transmission, as well as land development and public infrastructure initiatives.

Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in GIS, geography, or a related field, with demonstrated capabilities in GIS.
  • Basic proficiency in ArcGIS software and geospatial analysis techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with standard GIS datasets, deliverables, and software.
  • Understanding of various coordinate systems, map projections, and datums.
  • Basic understanding of standard cartographic methods, GIS principles, and spatial data management.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks independently and prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to solve complex problems related to GIS development and mapping.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous work experience or familiarity with consulting engineers and/or surveyors is a plus.
  • Prior experience working on energy projects (e.g., transmission, solar, wind) or land development projects.
  • Experience with remote sensing, GPS technology, and web mapping tools.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and DWG files.
  • Experience using Google Earth and KMZ files.
  • Familiarity with LiDAR datasets and their usage.
  • Experience using Arcade expressions, Python, ModelBuilder, or another common GIS scripting language, as job duties may include creating scripts to streamline frequently performed tasks.
  • Experience as a consultant.
