Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and 6 months of dental assisting experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Completion of a formal dental assisting training program and externship is acceptable.
  • CPR certification.

Position Description

The University of Louisville School of Dentistry is actively seeking a Dental Assistant I to join its team. This position primarily functions as a chairside dental assistant within our graduate specialty dental practice area, located at 501 S. Preston Street in Louisville, KY.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist providers at chairside during dental procedures.
  • Review and maintain patient charts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare operatories, instruments, supplies, and necessary paperwork prior to patient arrival.
  • Maintain the clinic environment and assist with patient screenings.
  • Perform specific functions and procedures related to the specialty area of practice.
  • Instruct patients in proper oral hygiene techniques.
  • Supervise patients during their visit and perform tasks such as mixing materials and taking vital signs.
  • Dispense pre-medication as directed by the provider.
  • Instruct patients in post-treatment care instructions.
  • Handle dental emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Cross-train with other employees in the area as specified by the supervisor and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Forward supply requests and maintain inventory control.
  • Stock cubicles and ensure supplies are readily available.
  • Perform various laboratory duties as assigned.
  • Order all outside dental supplies from vendors and create an ongoing catalog for supply management.
  • Distribute sterilized trays and instruments to operatories.
  • Receive and prepare contaminated instruments for sterilization.
  • Set up and tear down operatories following strict infection control guidelines.
  • Clean dental equipment according to established protocols.
  • Scan orthodontic models into axiUm using Motion view for electronic records.

Compensation

Target Compensation Minimum: $16.51

Target Compensation Maximum: $24.77

Compensation will be commensurate with candidate experience and qualifications.
