Civil/Structural Engineering Internship | Primera

The Tone:
This is an internship at Primera, located in Lisle, IL. Primera is a people-first organization with a Utilities division that provides vital electrical, civil, and structural engineering solutions to energize our future, supporting electric and gas utilities, renewables, transmission systems, and facilities nationwide. This role offers students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world client solutions, gain hands-on experience, and be mentored by experts in a collaborative environment that values learning and meaningful connections.

The TL;DR

• Pay: $24–$27 hourly

What You’ll Actually Do
• Engineering Calculations: Utilize standard engineering practices and techniques to prepare sketches, technical comparisons, and calculations for reinforced concrete beam and slab design.
• Drafting and Design: Perform plan and detail drafting using CAD software for various projects.
• Project Assistance: Assist with field surveys and prepare improvement plans, specifications, supporting documents, and permit applications for private and public work projects.
• Mentorship & Responsibility: Work from the Lisle, IL office on diverse projects, receiving mentorship from experts to enhance classroom curriculum and taking on significant responsibility through learning by doing.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, learn, grow, and have a good time in an inclusive and supportive professional environment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently studying civil engineering with a focus on structural, enrolled in an ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree program, and at least a Junior or more advanced in curriculum.
• Experience: Eager to gain hands-on experience in an office environment and apply classroom knowledge to real-world solutions; completed a surveying course; maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Skills: Proficient with business and engineering applications, specifically AutoCAD; strong interpersonal skills with a friendly demeanor and value for connecting with colleagues.
• Bonus: Prior internship experience is a plus; knowledge of RISA 3D and Revit will make you stand out.
