Job Description: Early Career Environmental Engineer

This Opportunity
As an Early Career Environmental Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing local technical assistance for various environmental investigations and mitigation efforts. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Investigations of soil, air, and groundwater contamination.
- Protection and mitigation efforts related to water supply.
- Projects involving hazardous or solid waste disposal.
- Addressing air emission sources and pollution control.
- Generating accurate and concise documentation to meet or exceed industry standards.
Your Impact
Under general supervision, your key responsibilities will include:
- Data Collection and Analysis: Collecting and compiling environmental data from various matrices (air, soil, water, sludge, etc.) for engineering analysis.
- Quality Control: Maintaining stringent quality control standards and procedures to ensure accurate and precise measurements.
- Engineering Support: Performing engineering calculations, cost estimates, data validation, and assisting with report preparation.
- Technical Assistance: Providing basic professional environmental engineering support for projects related to:
- Air emission sources.
- Hazardous or solid waste facilities.
- Water supply facilities.
- Industrial and agricultural facilities.
- Pollution sources and existing site conditions.
- Water resources and underground storage tanks.
- Site Verification: Assisting in verifying site characteristics and offering entry-level technical assistance on diverse environmental issues.
- Documentation: Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including meticulous maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.
- Professional Development: Completing assigned training tasks to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Ethical Conduct: Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making concerning company funds, resources, and conduct, in strict adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Additional Tasks: Performing other responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a strong analytical mindset.
- Environmental Concepts: Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Communication: Competent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of expressing ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Self-Leadership: Proficient self-leadership with keen attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Teamwork & Independence: Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team to achieve business objectives.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Work Location: This role is full-time onsite.

- Work Schedule Flexibility: Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification: Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
- Software Familiarity: Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Experience: Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- Professional Affiliation: A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
