Pay Range: $22.00 to $24.00 Hourly. Pay will be dependent upon experience.
Job Summary
Matrix Design Group’s Internship program is a collaborative 10-week paid program that allows applicants to gain unparalleled exposure into the practicing principles within a multidisciplinary firm.
Designed for college juniors and seniors or recent graduates with an interest in Ecology, Wildlife Management, Water Resources and Watershed Sciences, Construction Management, Planning, Environmental Services, and Landscape Architecture. While this position is primarily ecology-focused, each applicant will work directly with a manager/director on a variety of projects that are often multidisciplinary in nature.
Planning, designing, and field work play crucial roles in providing students with a 360-degree approach and infusing real world experiences into education. While interning you will gain experience with tools such as ArcGIS Pro, AutoCad, Civil 3D, ArcGIS Online, Survey123, FieldMaps, Indesign, Excel, and other industry specific tools relevant to your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist ecology team in performing fieldwork, including post-construction monitoring, construction oversight, wetland delineations, vegetation and wildlife surveys, and Landscape Typology, Matrix’s cutting-edge landscape assessment tool.
- Assist in preparation of technical reports, including monthly/quarterly monitoring reports, ecological assessments, environmental reports, and other documentation required for project planning, site management, and/or the permitting process.
- Digitize and organize large quantities of field data using various applications, including Microsoft Excel, ArcGIS Pro, and Adobe Indesign.
- Identification of native, non-native, and noxious species for qualitative and quantitative surveys.
- Utilize ArcGIS software for mapping and data analysis to support project needs.
- Collaborate with project managers, environmental specialists, and other team members to ensure project goals are met.
- Balance demands of multiple projects at once, which often require various deliverables and/or field work.
Education And Experience
- Must be a junior or senior in college or a recent graduate with an interest in pursuing a degree program including or closely related to Ecology, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Water Resources and Watershed Sciences, and/or Environmental Services.
- Strong technical writing skills with experience or interest in preparing environmental reports and documentation.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and part of a team.
- Preferred: working knowledge of native, non-native, and noxious vegetation frequently found along the Colorado front range; knowledge of wildlife habitat assessment techniques; experience with ArcGIS software.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with regular field days lasting anywhere from 2-10 hours and up to 8 miles of walking in potentially hazardous conditions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
