Assistant Engineer | Turner

The Tone:
This is a full-time, experienced role at Turner, a leading construction company, located in San Francisco, CA. The company is dedicated to constructing complex projects on time, within budget, and to precise quality standards. This role is pivotal in managing and assessing the critical information needed to build parts of the project “on paper,” directly contributing to successful project execution.

• Team: Reports to an Engineer, Project Engineer, or Project Manager; supervises Engineering Assistants, Plan Clerks, and Interns.
• Mission: To ensure construction projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the specified quality by effectively managing and evaluating project information.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office suite, BIM, LEAN

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Liaison: Act as a central liaison among architects, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, inspectors, internal staff, and owner’s representatives to resolve all issues related to project plans and specifications.
• Document Management: Oversee and make decisions regarding all contract drawings and subcontract information, ensuring they align with the general contract, subcontract documents, and the project estimate.
• Financial Oversight: Manage the project budget and negotiate change orders, including preparing independent analyses, obtaining subcontractor estimates, and securing architect and owner approvals for changes in work.
• Team Supervision: Supervise and provide performance input for Engineering Assistants, Plan Clerks, and Interns assigned to the project.
• Project Closeout: Direct the project close-out process, preparing and evaluating all final records such as RFIs, warranties, as-builts, and operation manuals to ensure full compliance with contract documents.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required, specifically in a field relevant to construction engineering, suitable for an experienced professional in the construction job family.
• Experience: A minimum of two years of related professional experience is required, demonstrating a proven track record in construction project environments.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities are essential for effective stakeholder interaction. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and the ability to accurately read, understand, and interpret complex contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules are critical. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills are also necessary for effective team and stakeholder management.
• Bonus: Familiarity with leading-edge construction technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and LEAN principles is a plus.
