Subrogation Specialist | USAA

The TL;DR
• Role: Subrogation Specialist
• Mission: Evaluate physical damages on claims made by other insurance carriers against USAA and determine the proper indemnity owed to the claimant carrier.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Coverage Coordination: Ensure coverage has been properly applied to the loss and coordinate a response with the Auto or Property adjuster when a coverage issue has been identified.
• Legal Application: Apply foundational knowledge of P&C insurance industry products, services, and processes, including P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, common law, contract law, state statutes, evidence, and damages.
• Claim Settlement: Review and audit estimates, then settle claims within prescribed limits of authority.
• Negotiation: Effectively negotiate settlements with contractors, adjusters, or any insured representative.
• Opportunity Identification: Recognize and document subrogation, SIU (Special Investigative Unit), and salvage opportunities, referring them accordingly.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is required. Foundational knowledge of common law, contract, and negligence laws, as well as P&C insurance industry products, services, processes, policy contracts, coverages, evidence, and damages.
• Experience: Up to 1 year of subrogation claims adjusting experience or auto or property claims adjusting experience.
• Skills: Ability to confidently resolve issues and negotiate fair settlements. Strong written communication skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy are essential. Acquisition and maintenance of an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and a designated number of attempts is also required.
• Bonus: 3 or more years of auto claims experience, and currently possessing an active auto adjuster license.
