The Tone:
This is a 6-month student co-op at Eversource, located in Westwood, MA. Eversource is deeply committed to environmental stewardship in its electric and gas operations. This role is crucial for supporting the integration of robust environmental compliance and strategic permitting into utility infrastructure projects, ensuring the protection of vital natural resources across the region.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Support environmental reviews and permitting for critical maintenance and new construction projects to ensure regulatory compliance and natural resource protection.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Environmental Reviews: Conduct detailed environmental reviews for maintenance and new construction projects, utilizing GIS mapping tools for area analysis.
• Permit Identification: Determine required local, state, and federal permits by reviewing mapped project areas and identifying environmental constraints.
• Regulatory Communication: Assist in preparing maintenance notification letters to facilitate timely communication with regulatory agencies regarding project activities.
• Field Investigations: Conduct site visits to substations, construction sites, and rights-of-way to gather essential information and perform environmental observations.
• Compliance Inspections: Support construction compliance inspections to ensure strict adherence to all permits, mitigation requirements, and company Best Management Practices.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program, at least a second-year student, majoring in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related discipline.
• Experience: Ability to accurately interpret maps, various environmental data sets, and project-specific information. Willingness to conduct field work and visit active construction and operational sites in varying conditions, requiring a valid driver’s license and access to a personally owned vehicle.
• Skills: Functional proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and ESRI GIS products. Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
