Account Clerk | State of Tennessee – Department of Tourist Development

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the State of Tennessee – Department of Tourist Development, located in Harrison, TN, specifically supporting the Tennessee State Parks Division within the Department of Environment and Conservation. The department works to preserve and showcase Tennessee’s natural and cultural resources, enhancing the visitor experience across its state parks. This Account Clerk role is vital for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the administrative operations that ensure the efficient running of Tennessee State Parks.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Calculate overall invoice totals, account adjustments, and purchases or account deductions to generate accurate reports, spreadsheets, and adjustment forms.
• Inventory Management: Reconcile physical inventory counts against electronic inventory data, verifying electronic data entries and receiving reports to ensure accuracy.
• Customer Relations: Communicate with internal and external customers in a friendly and courteous manner, fielding calls to explain account status, internal policies, and procedures, while effectively managing complaints.
• Record Keeping: Maintain precise account entries in electronic databases for accurate record keeping and organize paper files, including invoices, adjustment forms, and court orders as required.
• Operational Support: Travel on foot to internal and external sites to deliver mail, make bank deposits, and pick up relevant departmental packages.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, requiring education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school with foundational knowledge in routine bookkeeping or clerical auditing work.
• Experience: A minimum of one year of experience in routine bookkeeping or routine clerical auditing is required. Alternatively, completion of nine quarter hours of study in accounting or bookkeeping from an accredited college, technical institute, or vocational school may substitute for the required experience. Qualifying experience can be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Skills: Proficiency in mathematics, strong reading comprehension, and effective speaking and active listening abilities are essential for this role.
• Bonus: A valid driver’s license is required, and candidates must meet specific driver standards including no DUI, reckless driving, or license suspension for moving violations in the past five years, and no more than four moving violations.
