Engineering Intern

Summary/Objective

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Intern to join our dynamic manufacturing team. This full-time internship offers a unique opportunity for direct involvement in product design improvements, hands-on prototype development, and exposure to real-world manufacturing engineering challenges. A significant component of this role will be supporting a crucial facility relocation project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support lean manufacturing initiatives and waste reduction projects to optimize production processes.
  • Assist in plant layout, workstation design, and optimization, specifically for electrical technicians.
  • Update engineering drawings and execute engineering changes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Improve existing product designs for enhanced manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
  • Assist in new product concept development and prototyping, contributing to innovation.

Projects & Learning Opportunities

Product Design & Improvement

  • Review and improve legacy electrical and electromechanical designs to enhance functionality and efficiency.
  • Recommend design updates for manufacturability (DFM) and cost optimization.
  • Assist in the transition to surface mount technology for modern product development.

AutoCAD & Documentation

  • Create and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD, ensuring precision and clarity.
  • Update electrical schematics and panel layouts.
  • Support facility transition through updated layouts and workstation planning for the new space.
  • Help standardize drawing control and revision practices for improved documentation management.

New Product & Prototype Development

  • Assist in concept modeling and early-stage design, bringing new ideas to life.
  • Build and test functional prototypes, gaining hands-on experience.
  • Support lab testing, data collection, and design iteration processes.
  • Document findings and prepare comprehensive technical summaries.

Facility Transition Support (June move to new facility)

  • Assist in equipment layout documentation for the new manufacturing plant.
  • Support workflow optimization in the new space to maximize efficiency.
  • Update engineering documentation to reflect process changes in the relocated facility.

Required Education and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics and component selection.
  • Ability to work independently and manage project tasks effectively.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with PCB design or embedded systems.
  • Basic understanding of ISO 9001 or quality systems.
  • Previous manufacturing exposure through coursework or projects.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-Time Internship position with 40 hours per week expected. The days of work are primarily Monday through Thursday, during hours of operation from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Must attend all mandatory meetings and participate in training. The internship dates are June 2 – August 14, 2026.

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
