Job Description

Junior Database Administrator

MANTECH is seeking a motivated, career-oriented, and customer-focused Junior Database Administrator to join their team in Doral, FL.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of various database systems, including Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
  • Perform routine database administration tasks such as backups, restores, patching, and upgrades.
  • Support efforts related to database performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolutions, operating under the supervision of senior DBAs.
  • Maintain database security, which includes managing user accounts and access controls.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and testing activities.
  • Set up and maintain SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and/or Failover Cluster Instances.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD and organizational cybersecurity policies and STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with system administrators, developers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure database systems meet both performance and security standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • BA/BS degree in a field relevant to Junior Database Administrator duties.
    • Alternatively, a High School Diploma coupled with 4 years of additional experience, or an Associate’s Degree with 2 years of additional experience, may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
    • A relevant Master’s degree grants 2 years of experience credit.
    • A relevant PhD degree grants 4 years of experience credit.
  • Experience:
    • 6+ months of experience performing work related to database administration.
  • Certifications:
    • Security+ certification.
    • Azure Admin Cert (AZ-104) certification.
  • Skills:
    • Basic knowledge of database concepts including indexing, normalization, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
    • Experience with SQL scripting and query optimization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) environments.
  • Familiarity with database STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) implementation and compliance.
  • Experience with cloud-based database platforms such as AWS RDS or Azure SQL.
  • Knowledge of automation or scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).

Clearance Requirements

  • Must possess an active Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Constant operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Occasional movement of equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
