Project Engineer Intern | EMCOR Group and its companies

The Tone:
This is an internship opportunity at EMCOR Group and its companies, offering a chance to gain hands-on experience in the electrical construction industry. EMCOR is a multidisciplinary electrical firm with extensive in-house expertise in planning, constructing, installing, and fully integrating a wide range of electrical, control, and telecom systems. This role is crucial in supporting project managers, contributing to the efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of complex electrical projects from inception to closeout.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (normal business hours, with potential for extended hours during deadlines)
• Location: Office-based, with potential for travel and field work

• Team: Works under a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager. No direct reports.
• Mission: Supports project managers by performing functions such as tracking submittals, RFIs, major equipment, and general document control to ensure project efficiency.
• Tech Stack: MS Excel, MS Word, Primavera P6 & Bluebeam

What You’ll Actually Do
• Permit Management: Oversee all stages of project permits, including conducting necessary takeoffs, diligently completing and submitting applications, and accurately recording permit information to ensure regulatory compliance and project progression.
• Comprehensive Document Control: Execute robust document control by creating and reviewing RFIs, ensuring they are integrated into current document sets, and communicating changes to field staff and General Contractors. This also involves managing submittals—creating, reviewing, requesting, and submitting them—and ensuring all project drawings are current, reviewed for changes, and accounted for.
• Quality Assurance and Closeout Support: Create and manage QA/QC documents, including establishing CX document tracking logs, printing necessary documents for the QC manager, collecting final documents, reviewing for completeness, and submitting them for project closeouts. Additionally, manage all closeout documents by requesting them from vendors, verifying accuracy, tracking required items, reviewing as-built drawings, and managing attic stock.
• Project Procurement Assistance: Provide essential support in project buyouts, which includes performing takeoffs for major purchases, preparing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), conducting bid leveling, assisting with vendor selection, and processing purchase orders and change orders.
• Method of Procedures (MOPs) and Access Coordination: Develop detailed MOPs by writing and reviewing them for accuracy with QAQC or APM/PM, submitting them to the General Contractor, and managing their progress. This involves updating the MOP log, tracking start dates for field coordination, and submitting timely access requests for personnel working on MOPs in live spaces.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrollment in a construction management or engineering undergraduate program, with a basic understanding of electrical construction and materials.
• Experience: Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, Primavera P6, and Bluebeam.
• Skills: Outstanding communication and customer service abilities, excellent organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a demanding work environment.
