Transportation Intern | DOWL

The Tone:
This is an internship at DOWL, located in Helena, MT. DOWL is a multi-disciplined consulting firm that provides civil engineering and related services, including transportation and structures. This role contributes to creating practical solutions that enhance safety, connectivity, and accessibility in transportation systems. The intern will assist with various engineering projects, gaining valuable experience and mentorship in civil engineering.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Support: Assist with field investigations, analysis of alternative solutions, and project design to contribute to transportation projects.
• Engineering Calculations: Perform necessary engineering calculations to support design project requirements.
• Cost Estimation: Calculate construction quantities from plans and specifications to aid in tabulating bid items and estimating construction costs.
• Drafting Support: Provide drafting support using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation for project documentation.
• Documentation: Prepare and route project-related correspondence, maintain accurate records, and assist with writing construction specifications and technical reports.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Minimum one year of college-level coursework towards a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience: A valid driver’s license is required to support legitimate business purposes.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to apply mathematical concepts, including geometry and trigonometry, to practical situations.
• Ability to analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, define problems, and draw valid conclusions from data.
• Ability to prioritize workload and complete tasks promptly and efficiently.
• Bonus:
• Knowledge and experience with Bentley MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Prior work experience in construction, traffic, or other civil engineering-related fields.
