About the Job: Acquisitions Technical Support Aide

The Acquisitions Technical Support Aide plays a crucial role in connecting both internal and external library users with the materials they need, whether sourced from a vendor or another library system. Working in close partnership with the Technical Services Division, this position provides essential information and clerical support to the Associates and Coordinator, thereby facilitating the efficient acquisition of library materials. The aide will also perform other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Converts selection lists into purchase orders within the SAP system, utilizing data entry and Microsoft Office skills. Regularly communicates progress updates to Associates and Coordinator.
  • Orders materials from monthly and special lists for various library agencies.
  • Retrieves necessary information from the Integrated Library System (ILS), vendor websites, OCLC WorldShare, and general Internet search engines to verify, correct, and/or add relevant data to customer requests. May also utilize other software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, Virtua, Pitney Bowes, and SAP.
  • Processes requests for Queens Public Library materials from other institutions, handling these both electronically and manually.
  • Manages incoming materials, which includes lifting and opening boxes, verifying contents against packing slips, matching materials with specific requests, and preparing items for circulation.
  • Manages outgoing materials, which includes closing requests, lifting boxes, and preparing items for shipping.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required. An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
  • Two years of customer service experience required.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in the following competencies: initiative, flexibility in approaching daily responsibilities, cooperative teamwork, and modeling exemplary customer service.
  • Must be friendly, courteous, and professional, possessing strong interpersonal skills to effectively support customer service.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, flexible, and a self-starter are all required.
  • A commitment to serving all communities in the most diverse area of the country.

This is a union position, represented by District Council 37. The starting annual salary for this position is $45,605.
