About the Job: 2026 Cyber Summer Intern

Position Overview: The Cyber Summer Associate Program
The Cyber Summer Associate Program is a comprehensive ten-week paid internship designed to immerse you in LevelBlue’s proactive and reactive cybersecurity services. You will work on real client projects, learning key skills in information security within one of our specialized fields:
- Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR): The DFIR team assists organizations in responding to cyberattacks and data breaches. You will work with legal counsel, focusing on acquiring, processing, and analyzing digital evidence. DFIR Cyber Summer Associates will work in-person in one of our state-of-the-art forensic labs.

Position Details
The internship commences in June with a virtual orientation, providing an opportunity to meet firm leadership, participate in initial training, network with colleagues, and engage in special events. Following orientation, Cyber Summer Associates will work directly alongside existing employees in one of our U.S. offices, becoming integral members of experienced client teams.
You will contribute to a diverse range of client projects, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and technologies. Regular training sessions and demos are provided to further develop both technical and professional skills. A key component of the program is a research project on an impactful topic relevant to the firm’s work, which you will present at the program’s conclusion.
From day one, you will learn from managers and colleagues with extensive technical backgrounds, many of whom have significantly contributed to the foundation of the cyber-focused industry. Each Cyber Summer Associate will be supported by both a mentor and a supervisor to guide their client work, professional development, and research project. Job Responsibilities
As a Cyber Summer Associate, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Performing tasks related to technical consulting engagements in digital forensics, incident response, security testing, or security advisory.
- Supporting teams in assessing clients’ risks related to internal IT infrastructure, publicly available IT assets, and other relevant attack surfaces.
- Becoming proficient with industry-standard tools and practices.
- Preserving and analyzing data from various devices including laptops, desktops, servers, and mobile devices.
- Designing, developing, documenting, analyzing, testing, and modifying computer systems and programs.
- Conducting statistical analysis of large data sets and other investigative components of cases.
- Learning to present complex technical matters and analysis clearly and concisely.
- Helping uncover causes of clients’ network intrusions/data breaches and increasing knowledge of malware.
- Aiding in the development of IT security risk metrics.
- Researching and piloting security software (commercial and open-source).
- Assisting in developing proprietary tools and programs for forensic analysis, network incident response, or penetration testing.
- Working alongside LevelBlue practitioners and cybersecurity specialists.
- Staying up-to-date with the current regulatory environment, industry trends, and related implications.
- Developing and broadening skills through dedicated training and research.
- Contributing to and attending in-house training sessions.
- Suggesting and pursuing firm-enhancing projects that leverage your skills and academic interests.
Basic Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, Digital Forensics, or another quant-focused major.
- Possess knowledge of computer networking technologies.
- Familiarity with computer system hardware and software.
- Demonstrate strong analytic, qualitative, and quantitative reasoning skills.
- Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of MS Office, and familiarity with Windows, Macintosh, and/or Linux operating systems.
- Creative problem-solving ability and an eagerness to learn and research new skills.
- Exceptional work ethic, high level of professionalism, and a commitment to ethical standards.
- Strong self-motivation and a positive mentality.
Applicants for this role should be rising seniors, graduating between Winter 2026 – Spring 2027, and have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Preferred Experience
While not strictly required, the following experience is highly valued:
- Security Testing: Familiarity with configuring, identifying, testing, and remediating vulnerable services and security bugs, and other ethical hacking techniques; experience with cybersecurity-related CTF challenges and platforms such as Hack The Box, Over The Wire, Hacker101, etc.
- DFIR: An investigative mindset, foundational knowledge of digital forensic artifacts or operating systems, and experience with any of the following: malware analysis; database operations and analysis; system administration; security tooling including EDR; cloud security and investigations; preservation of digital media; parsing and drawing conclusions from large data sets.
- Solutions Development: A passion for writing code daily. Proficiency in Python and a statically-typed compiled language (e.g., Java, C++, Rust, Zig, Haskell). Knowledge of algorithms and data structures, version control with Git, unit testing, and comfort working with remote team members and taking direction. Interest in cybersecurity and AWS cloud is helpful.
- Flexibility to collaborate or work independently and ability to grasp new concepts quickly and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with Python, Java, C#, C++, SQL, or assembly languages are a plus, but programming skills are not required for all roles.
