Job Title: Technical Trainer – Electrical Field Operations
Job Purpose
The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate and deliver high-quality learning experiences that address Overhead Electrical technical, regulatory, and safety requirements. This will be achieved through a blended learning approach, supporting the effective design and development of instructional solutions. The role contributes significantly to training in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of field operations equipment. While the primary focus is on the Lineman discipline, support also extends to other critical areas including Substation, Network or Underground, Metering, DER (Distributed Energy Resources), and Relay Test. This role serves as a crucial technical subject matter expert within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate Reviews: Facilitate the review of new or revised documents, work procedures, and training materials in collaboration with Safety, Engineering Standards, Training, and other relevant groups. This ensures that all new equipment introduced into the system can be safely maintained and operated according to design specifications.
- Stay Current: Remain up-to-date on training developments and best practices to ensure innovation and the latest learning requirements and ideas are incorporated into RIE technical training programs.
- Support Development: Assist engineering and field operations teams in constructing equipment mock-ups and simulations. This supports the effective development of new procedures and associated training content.
- Facilitate Communication: Promote and facilitate the adoption of new or revised work procedures through active participation in committees, delivering presentations, contributing to process improvement meetings, and organizing roadshows.
- Technology Adoption: Provide support for new RIE technology initiatives, ensuring that employees are adequately trained on new systems and tools.
- Administer Learning Records: Oversee and maintain learning records administration, including monitoring course completions, attendance, assessment results, and qualifications. This involves administering testing and conducting physical and technical assessments.
- Emergency Response: Fulfill assigned emergency and storm roles, which may require after-hours work during company response efforts. This responsibility is activated during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service.
- Optional On-Call: Optional participation in a supervisory On-Call rotation for emergency off-hour coverage.
- Safety-Sensitive Driving: Comply with all safety-sensitive driving requirements as applicable to the role.
- Flexible Work Location: The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change, and in the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required for face-to-face interaction and coordination.
- Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (Hiring Level Commensurate with Experience)
- Associate Level: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Specialist Level: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline PLUS 2 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Senior Level: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline PLUS 5 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Lead Level: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline PLUS 7 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient user of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Writing: Proficient technical writing capability.
- Communication: Proficient verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Facilitation: Proficient facilitation skills, particularly when serving as a subject matter expert.
- Procedures: Proficient in Switching and Tagging Procedures.
