Job Description
Back-End Software Engineer
At Complama, we use AI to enable fast-growing companies to build secure, trustworthy products by turning cybersecurity, privacy, and AI governance requirements into clear, self-service workflows. We’re looking for a Back-End Software Engineer to join our small, high-trust team and contribute directly to our product development.
This is a hands-on role, great for a highly skilled engineer early in their career who is extremely comfortable with Java/Spring Boot, knows how to effectively leverage AI tools, and is excited to work in a startup environment where they can move quickly, ship swiftly, and take real ownership.
We are a remote-first company, but highly prefer candidates located near our hubs in Ann Arbor, Michigan and New York, NY to facilitate regular, in-person connection and ease the possible move to a hybrid work environment as we grow.
What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a self-starter who is technically capable, thoughtful in their approach, and highly motivated to grow in a fast-paced environment.
You are a strong candidate if you:
- Have built cloud applications using Java/Spring Boot
- Have deployed applications to Google Cloud Platform and used Firebase, Cloud Run, and Cloud SQL
- Have built and deployed using CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions
- Are familiar with Serverless Architectures
- Are comfortable building APIs
You are a stellar candidate if you also:
- Have built AI assistants like RAG agents
- Are familiar with cutting-edge AI memory technologies like Supermemory or Mem0
- Are deeply passionate about democratizing cybersecurity and data privacy
- Are a proactive, excellent communicator who brings a positive energy and a “can-do” attitude
- Are looking for “more than just a a job”
Educational Background:
We are open to candidates of all educational backgrounds; however, the typical candidate for this role would hold, or be nearing completion of, a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field. If you are a current student, recent graduate, or are graduating in May 2026 and are interested in starting in this role upon graduation, please feel welcome to apply.
Why Work For Us:
- You’d like to be part of a fast-moving startup, revolutionizing a competitive, highly technical industry.
- You are excited to build something and grow with the company and are more motivated by that then base compensation.
- You want to be part of a flexible workplace that values presence and outcomes over appearances, and understands you may have commitments outside of work and will work with you around class schedules, child care schedules, or anything else that may come up.
Other Things to Know:
- We are open to both part-time and full-time candidates for this role, and hours may fluctuate over time.
- This role offers a compensation package that includes a combination of base-pay and equity, but leans heavily toward equity.
- Our equity package is quite competitive, but base-pay is unlikely to compete with what other, later-stage companies can offer.
- We E-Verify, and are open to candidates from all backgrounds, including those on OPT and STEM-OPT; however, we are not able to sponsor candidates on H1-B at this time for this role.
