Overview

i3 presents an exciting internship opportunity within its Agency Information Management and Software Services (AIMSS) effort. This role is specifically designed for ambitious students pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or a closely related field.

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a strong foundational interest in cybersecurity principles, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a genuine desire to learn about cutting-edge security technologies. As a Cybersecurity Intern, you will benefit from direct mentorship from experienced cybersecurity professionals while actively contributing to real-world security challenges.

This internship is scheduled to run for the duration of Summer 2026. We offer flexibility to accommodate the student’s academic schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical support for ongoing cybersecurity initiatives, including assisting in the monitoring, detection, and response to security incidents.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer service and technical support to i3 Team Members, focusing on security awareness and best practices.
  • Assist in the identification and analysis of potential security vulnerabilities within supported systems and networks, adhering to industry best practices and security standards.
  • Contribute to the incident response process by assisting in the initial response to security alerts, conducting preliminary investigations, and escalating incidents as required.
  • Ensure effective communication by following up with users and internal stakeholders on security-related requests, updates, and resolutions.
  • Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of essential security documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately record events, incidents, and their resolutions utilizing established ticketing systems.
  • Gain invaluable hands-on experience supporting ongoing security projects, which may include vulnerability scanning, code analysis, security awareness training, and incident response exercises.
  • Deliver high-quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment by effectively managing time and effort across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Perform additional cybersecurity-related duties as assigned, potentially involving assistance with security audits, compliance efforts, and risk assessments.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Must currently be enrolled at an accredited college/university in an undergraduate or graduate-level degree program (Cybersecurity, Information Security, Computer Science, IT, or a related field of study required) at the time of the internship (Summer 2026) or the semester immediately following (Fall 2026).
  • Possess basic computer knowledge/experience.
  • Demonstrate basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with the Windows Operating System.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and client service skills; proven ability to articulate clearly in discussions and written documents, and to deliver feedback professionally and tactfully.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Regular i3 hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday; however, additional hours may be required on occasion. Regular and punctual attendance is required.
