About Freemont Animal Hospital:

We are a state-of-the-art GP Practice equipped with a full suite of advanced diagnostic and treatment tools, including:

• The latest lab diagnostics
• Digital radiography, including specialized dental radiographs
• Comprehensive dentistry services
• A wide range of surgical procedures, proudly including advanced LSS stifle repairs
• Advanced Ultrasound capabilities for diagnostics such as AFAST, TFAST, and VetBlue

Freemont Animal Hospital has a proud history of participating in numerous externships, providing invaluable experience for both veterinary technicians and veterinary students.

What You Will Learn & Do:

As an extern, you will work closely with our supervising veterinarians to gain practical, hands-on experience across various critical aspects of veterinary medicine. Your learning opportunities will include:

• Mastering the art of gathering thorough patient histories
• Honing your skills in performing accurate physical exams
• Participating in the creation of effective treatment plans
• Engaging directly with diagnostics, from interpretation to application
• Assisting with and learning comprehensive dentistry services
• Observing, assisting, or even performing surgical procedures, depending on your skill level and readiness
• Understanding and implementing the medical management of diverse patient cases

Beyond clinical skills, this externship offers a vital opportunity to practice and enhance your communication skills with various stakeholders, including:

• The entire medical team

Externship Program Details:

• Duration: Most externship experiences at Freemont Animal Hospital range from two to eight weeks, flexible depending on both student availability and hospital schedules.
• Eligibility: All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are strongly encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Stipend Program:

To support eligible students, Freemont Animal Hospital offers a travel/living expense stipend for those meeting specific criteria.
