Microsoft is seeking a UX Research Intern with a strong foundation in qualitative research methods and a passion for journey-focused research.

The ideal candidate is actively pursuing a graduate degree (PhD preferred) in fields such as psychology, anthropology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related discipline. Essential experience includes conducting various qualitative studies, such as:

  • In-depth interviews
  • Usability studies
  • Diary studies
  • Contextual inquiries

This intern will play a crucial role in supporting research initiatives focused on exploring end-to-end user journeys. Key objectives include uncovering pain points, understanding user motivations, and identifying opportunities across complex workflows, with a particular emphasis on enterprise security and productivity experiences. Responsibilities

As a UX Research Intern, you will:

  • Apply your expertise in qualitative research methods and tools.
  • Demonstrate strong storytelling and synthesis skills to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Develop the ability to map user journeys effectively and pinpoint critical moments of friction or delight.
  • Comfortably collaborate with cross-functional teams and confidently present research findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be enrolled in a full-time Doctorate Degree program in a field relevant to the role during the academic term immediately preceding their internship.
  • Must have at least one semester or term of school remaining after the completion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant internship or work experience (e.g., consulting, pre-sales/post-sales, business analysis, technical sales, technology solutions, solution architecture, change management).
