Responsibilities
Our internship program mirrors the responsibilities of a full-time Financial Representative career, allowing you to:
- Learn how to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy.
- Initiate contact with potential clients and set meetings to understand their unique financial goals.
- Prepare detailed financial plans and offer useful, personalized recommendations.
- Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
- Engage in regular weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
- Receive support for obtaining Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
- Build essential life skills that create future career opportunities.
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you will enjoy a flexible schedule designed to accommodate your academic life and classes. With the option to participate in our internship program year-round, you can continuously grow your practice and receive support for advanced registrations and certifications such as the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. Interns are inspired at local and national recognition events, gain access to leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. Our culture provides diverse resources to ensure your personal and professional growth throughout the program. Eligible students demonstrating interest also have the opportunity to interview for a full-time Financial Representative or Advisor role upon graduation.
Qualifications

- Currently a full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.
- Possess entrepreneurial ambitions and a genuine curiosity for sales.
- Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
- Demonstrate excellent time-management skills.
- Exhibit an interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
- Possess business savvy and a desire to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Performance-based earnings and revenue.

If offered to apply for approval of an intern contract to become a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, a national criminal background check is required.
