About the Job: Data Visualization Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Data Visualization Intern to join our Digital Data Services (DDS) team. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your analytical and design skills to transform complex data into clear, actionable insights, supporting critical organizational processes and strategic decision-making.

Location: Huntsville, AL (Remote Possible)

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Analysis & Insight Generation: Support the DDS team in gathering and meticulously analyzing process-related data, identifying crucial metrics and emerging trends ripe for visualization.
• Compelling Visualization Creation: Design and develop impactful data visualizations, primarily using Power BI, to distill complex information into clear, engaging, and easily understandable formats.
• Playbook Visual Development: Collaborate closely with the Digital Data Services Team to craft essential visual components for an organizational playbook, facilitating the systematic inventory and documentation of processes.
• Training & Empowerment: Contribute to the development of comprehensive training materials and workshops, empowering departments to effectively utilize data visualization tools and accurately interpret visualized data.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Aid in creating thorough documentation for data sources, visualization methodologies, and established best practices, ensuring robust continuity and seamless knowledge transfer within the team.
• Ad Hoc Support: Undertake additional duties as required to support team objectives and project success.

Required Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Information Technology, Graphic Design, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated proficiency with leading data visualization tools, specifically Power BI (required), with experience in others like Tableau being a plus. Familiarity with programming languages such as R or Python for data manipulation and analysis is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical acumen with a proven ability to interpret and derive insights from complex data sets.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a particular strength in translating technical concepts and data insights clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
• Creative mindset coupled with a keen eye for design principles and aesthetic presentation in data visualization.
• Ability to thrive in both collaborative team settings and independently, managing tasks with minimal supervision.
• Proven capability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.

Clearance Requirements:

• Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance.
• US Citizenship is required for this position.
