College Financial Representative Internship – Northwestern Mutual
Overview:
At Northwestern Mutual, the College Financial Representative internship program offers full-time students a structured framework, guidance, and connections to build an integrated financial planning practice from the ground up. Interns will engage with local and nationwide experts, gain access to exclusive financial products, and benefit from the support of a Fortune 500 company. This program is designed to help individuals build confidence, develop a professional network, and empower people to achieve financial freedom. Hard work is explicitly rewarded within this program. Responsibilities:
This internship program mirrors the full-time Financial Representative career, providing a comprehensive learning experience:
• Learn to prospect and network effectively to build your business and client base.
• Develop and execute a robust business strategy.
• Engage with potential clients through calls and meetings to understand their financial goals.
• Prepare financial plans and offer useful recommendations.
• Gain exposure to proprietary planning software platforms.
• Participate in weekly coaching, training, and development meetings.
• Receive support for Risk Product State Licensing: Life, Accident, and Health.
• Develop essential life skills that foster future career opportunities.
Interns can expect a flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments. The program offers the option to participate year-round, facilitating continuous growth and support for registrations and certifications like the Series 6 & 63 or CFP®. Interns can also gain inspiration at local and national recognition events, access leadership programs, and collaborate with industry experts. Upon graduation, eligible students have the opportunity to interview for full-time Financial Representative or Advisor roles.
Qualifications:
Northwestern Mutual is looking for candidates who fit the following profile:
• Currently a full-time student; juniors and seniors are preferred.
• Possesses entrepreneurial ambitions and a curiosity for sales.
• Highly involved on campus (e.g., leader, athlete, campus organizations, student government).
• Demonstrates excellent time-management skills.
• Has an interest in financial literacy and planning tools.
• Is business savvy and desires to increase critical thinking abilities.
Compensation & Benefits:
This program offers a competitive and supportive compensation structure:
• Performance-based earnings and revenue.
• Learning and Development Incentives (up to $1000/month, exclusive of earned commissions).
• Productivity Bonuses.
• Support for insurance licensing (life, health, DI, LTC).
• Support for SIE, Series 6, Series 63 registrations (eligibility required).
• Salary Range: USD $500.00 – USD $1,000.00 /Yr.
